Egypt reviews best practices in anti-corruption awareness-raising, education, training and research to prevent corruption
The 13th session of the Implementation Review Group and the 13th session of the Open-ended Intergovernmental Working Group on the Prevention of Corruption continue for the third day under the chairmanship of Minister Hassan AbdelShafi Ahmed, Chairman of the Administrative Control Authority and the President of Ninth Session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (COSP9).
The third day witnessed joint meetings between the Implementation Review Group and the Working Group on the Prevention of Corruption to exchange views on the 4th item of the agenda of the Implementation Review Group titled: "Status of the United Nations Convention against Corruption", as well as agenda item 2 of the Working Group on the Prevention of Corruption called: "Implementation of COSP9 relevant resolutions", which tackles good practices and initiatives in the field of prevention of corruption.
The morning session addressed a number of topics on the regional implementation of chapter II (Preventive measures) of the United Nations Convention against Corruption. The session capitalized on the information fron the States’ reviews in light of the Implementation Review Mechanism.
The session further encompassed discussions on promoting the use of information technologies for the implementation of the UNCAC, where representatives of States reviewed their countries’ progress, namely the General Coordinator for Knowledge Development and Innovation at the Attorney General's Office in Brazil; General Director of the Independent Anti-Corruption Bureau of Madagascar; Head of the European Integration, Strategic Planning and Development Group in Serbia; and Auditor at the’ Supreme Audit Institution of the United Arab Emirates.
The evening session addressed challenges and good practices in the areas of awareness-raising, education, training and research to prevent corruption. Major General Khaled Saeed, The Administrative Control Authority’s (ACA) Under Secretary, reviewed Egypt and the ACA’s strides in raising awareness and providing training on preventing and combating corruption in the light of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy.
The session also included reviews from States representatives, including the acting Head of the Resources, Support and Legal Affairs Department in Austria; Director of the Department of International Agreements at the Saudi Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority; Director of The Anti-Corruption Centre of the Higher School of Economics in Russia; and Chief of Section of the UNESCO Department of Global Citizenship and Peace Education.
