Minister Amr Adel, Chairman of the Administrative Control Authority, participated in the first Ministerial Meeting of the Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States held on 20 -21 December  in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The meeting concluded with the adoption of the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Convention on  Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement, which addresses the impact of crime and enhances the exchange of information and investigations among anti-corruption bodies.  

During the opening ceremony, ACA Chairman delivered a speech on combating corruption within the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the country’s strides in that field, namely the launching of multiple phases of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy, crowned with the third phase 2023-2030. The speech also tackled the development of the Administrative Control Authority’s strategies since its establishment in 1964.

A high-level panel discussion was held on the sidelines of the meeting in the presence of the Chairman of the Administrative Control Authority; Dr. Ghada Wali, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC); Mr. Anisul Haq, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs of Bangladesh; Dr.Elizabeth Barrett, Professor of Governance and Integrity at the University of Sussex;  Mr. Jurgen Shtok, Secretary-General of INTERPOL; and Ms. Khulyssel Kanele, Egmont Group Chair.

During the panel discussion, Egypt's best practices and major challenges in formal and informal cooperation with counterparts were reviewed. Thepanel concluded by recommending that the exchange of information and investigations should be enhanced in an efficient and expeditious manner to prevent, detect and investigate corruption offenses, thereby contributing to asset recovery.

On the sidelines of the meetings, the Chairman of the Administrative Control Authority held several bilateral meetings with the heads of counterpart agencies from the Islamic states as well as the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime to discuss ways to enhance future cooperation and capacity-building in the areas of preventing and combating corruption.
