Minister Amr Adel, Chairman of the Administrative Control Authority, met with Akmal Burkhanov, Director of the Anti-Corruption Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and his accompanying delegation at the headquarters of the Administrative Control Authority in the New Administrative Capital. The visit comes in light of the Administrative Control Authority’s efforts to bolster cooperation with counterpart oversight bodies towards exchanging anti-corruption visions and knowledge and leveraging best practices pertaining to issues of common concern.

During the meeting, Minister Amr Adel underscored the historical and cultural ties characterizing the Egypt- Uzbekistan relations across various fields, recalling that Egypt was the first Arab country to recognize the independence of the State of Uzbekistan in 1991, which ushered in an era of mutual cooperation and fruitful partnerships. Minister Amr Adel added that the visit comes in line with the full-fledged cooperation agreed upon by both countries during the meeting between H.E. Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and H.E. Shaukat Mirzayev, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan. 

Along the same lines, Minister Amr Adel reviewed the efforts of the Administrative Control Authority in preventing and combating corruption, namely launching the three phases of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy and following up on the implementation of its goals. The meeting witnessed a delineation of the Authority's commitment to advancing Egypt’s national information infrastructure, whereby databases are curated, connected, and filtered to ensure the separation of regulation and service provision as well as informed decision-making. This, besides highlighting the role of the Administrative Control Authority’s affiliate, the Egyptian Anti-Corruption Academy (EACA), in capacity-building within the ACA, state administrative apparatus, and local and international law enforcement agencies.

For its part, the Uzbek delegation affirmed the pivotal role played by Egypt in the region, expressing aspirations to benefit from Egypt’s experience in relevant areas, especially in the field of preventing and combating corruption, so as to reinforce relations between the Administrative Control Authority and its counterpart in Uzbekistan. The delegation also reviewed flagship efforts made by Uzbekistan's Anti-Corruption Agency to prevent and combat corruption.

The meeting concluded by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to exchange experiences and knowledge, build capacities in the field of preventing and combating corruption, and identify the best practices undertaken by the two countries.
