H.E. Minister Amr Adel, Chairman of the Administrative Control Authority and President of the ninth session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (COSP9), chaired the meetings of the Implementation Review Group (IRG) from 12 to 16 June in Vienna.

Over the course of five days, the IRG discussed the progress made in reviewing the implementation of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) as well as the prospects for the second phase of the Implementation Review Mechanism (IRM). Discussions encompassed the follow-up to the political declaration in promoting business integrity and the best practices in the areas of preventing and combating corruption by relevant bodies.

During the sessions, the Administrative Control Authority reviewed best practices and lessons learned through the periodic assessment of anti-corruption measures and policies. The review highlighted Egypt’s efforts in preparing and following up on the implementation of its three-phase National Anti-Corruption Strategy; the methodology underpinning the development of performance indicators; and the legislative impact assessment conducted to introduce relevant legislations. The discussions witnessed the participation of representatives from Italy, Korea, and Moldova.

The meetings included the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Dr. Ghada Wali, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The MoU shall enhance the development and implementation of anti-corruption strategies; promote advanced financial investigation techniques; and propel forward the fight against organized crime, including human trafficking and migrant smuggling.

On the sidelines of the sessions, heads and representatives of anti-corruption and law enforcement agencies across different countries and international bodies came together to discuss bolstering joint cooperation in tackling high-priority issues. The closing session concluded with the adoption of the reports of the working groups.
