In the framework of the directives of the President of the Republic to operationalize and follow-up on the Law on Reconciliation of Construction Violations No. 187 of 2023 while ensuring the governance of procedures and defying any attempts to circumvent the law to waste state dues and increase construction violations, the follow-up has resulted in detection of some officials who seek to abuse their powers to realize illicit financial gains from some contractors and property owners. In return, they will enable the contractors to commit new construction violations, condone taking any legal action and accept reconciliation as old violations before the promulgation of the law.

Investigations revealed that 16 officials are involved, including the assistant secretary general of one of the governorates, the head of the technical inspection body for construction works, a district chief, and several officials. When presented to the investigation authorities, an arrest warrant was issued. The defendants were charged with crimes of forgery, bribery, and misuse of public funds. They were remanded in custody pending further investigation.

The Administrative Control Authority affirms its sincere determination to harness all capacities to counter any attempts that undermine the integrity of the performance of public office or cause misuse of public funds, as these crimes have severe negative impact on the comprehensive development efforts of society.
