In pursuit of the national efforts to implement an integrated system for corruption prevention and combating based on the governance of procedures and the development of labor systems and the basic pillar of informed community participation, the Administrative Control Authority managed to seize two cases that reflect two different faces of the public office. The first for an employee who breached his national duty, taking advantage of his powers to benefit from his position; while the second for an employee with integrity who promptly reported an incident, preventing corruption and maintaining the integrity of the public office.
As part of the ongoing follow-up of the government procurement and contracts system to ensure governance of administrative procedures and good management and preservation of public funds, the Authority managed to monitor the recurrent and continuous dealing of one of the service ministries with two car maintenance centers to provide this service to the Ministry’s vehicles. The investigation revealed that the Director of the Public Relations Department had an exchange of interests with the owners of the two centers whereby he received regular amounts of money in return for his approval of the maintenance of the Ministry's vehicles at the two centers. Upon presentation of the issue to the Prosecutor General, the Honorable Counsellor issued a decision to seize the accused and the owners of the maintenance centers and refer them to the competent prosecution which issued its decision to detain them pending investigation.
As for the community participation, a discipline engineer in one of the districts of Cairo Governorate reported that the owner of a famous car show offered him money as a bribe in conjunction with others to abuse his authority and disregard the construction violations in one of the properties owned by the briber. Upon presentation of the issue to the Public Prosecution, a decision was issued to arrest the accused. They were seized while offering bribery amounts and referred to the competent prosecution to complete the investigations.
The Administrative Control Authority calls on citizens to confront and report corruption and not respond or engage in any illegal activities and actions that affect the prestige and dignity of the public office or hinder Egypt’s reform and development efforts.
