Minister Amr Adel, Chairman of the Administrative Control Authority, met with Dr. Ghada Wali, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), at the ACA’s headquarters in Cairo.

During the meeting, the two discussed the implementation of the Sharm El-Sheikh Declaration, issued towards the end of the ninth session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (COPS9), under the presidency of the ACA. They also reviewed joint efforts to foster capacities to prevent and combat corruption, organized crime, and human trafficking. This, along with leveraging national experts from the Administrative Control Authority at the regional and international levels, and fostering cooperation with the Egyptian Anti-Corruption Academy (EACA) and other training venues offered by the ACA.

Minister Amr Adel welcomed Dr. Ghada Wali, commending the role of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in supporting the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC). As well as its role in coordinating with relevant agencies and building capacities within these bodies. H.E. Amr Adel stressed the importance of joining forces with anti-corruption agencies at the international and regional levels to curb the scourge of corruption; one that adversely affects development efforts. The Minister further stated that he is looking forward to more fruitful and constructive cooperation with the UNODC in fields of mutual interest this coming period.

For her part, Dr. Ghada Wali congratulated Minister Amr Adel on his appointment as the Chairman of the Administrative Control Authority, looking forward to continued cooperation between the two sides in all areas of shared interest. She also reiterated the keenness of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime to sustain the partnership with the Administrative Control Authority, out of the UNODC’s robust belief in the ACA’s vital role in preventing corruption and combating human trafficking and illegal migration. In light of the ACA’s pivotal role on the regional level, the UNODC’s Executive Director also underscored the interest of UNODC in providing the necessary support to the ACA ahead of its chairmanship of the Africa Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (AAACA).
