Administrative Control Authority Undersecretary: Egypt worked diligently to implement all of the Political Declaration’s provisions from the outset, out of the ACA’s firm belief in the importance of preventing and combating corruption.

The Administrative Control Authority took part in the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (COSP) meetings, held from 5 to 8 September, 2022 in Vienna, to discuss progress in the implementation of the Political Declaration adopted at the Special Session of the General Assembly against corruption.

The meetings include panel discussions tackling good practices, challenges, and the way forward in meeting the commitments laid down by the Political Declaration’s provisions. 

During the discussions, ACA’s Undersecretary stated that Egypt worked diligently to implement all of the Political Declaration’s provisions from the outset, out of its firm belief in the importance of preventing and combating corruption; adding that Egypt has been careful to strengthen international and regional cooperation. The Authority’s Undersecretary elaborated that Egypt managed to effectively represent and voice African pursuits pertinent to preventing and combating corruption. He further  stressed that Egypt will work over the next three years to provide technical support and training to relevant African anti-corruption bodies through the Authority’s training venue, the Egyptian Anti-Corruption Academy (EACA). This initiative comes together with preparing the third phase of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy 2023-2030, to build on what was achieved during the second phase.

It is worth noting that in 2021, Heads of States and Governments; Ministers; and representatives of States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption met at United Nations Headquarters, during the Special Session of the General Assembly against corruption, to adopt the Political Declaration: "Our common commitment to effectively addressing challenges and implementing measures to prevent and combat corruption and strengthen international cooperation," in which States Parties committed themselves to working towards preventing and combating corruption; consolidating international cooperation; promoting respect for human rights, justice, democracy and the rule of law on all fronts to tackle corruption in its various manifestations and curb its negative effects.

The Political Declaration mirrors the global commitment to combating corruption through the following key issues: preventive measures; criminalization and law enforcement; international cooperation; asset recovery; technical assistance and information exchange; combating corruption as a core objective of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda; and putting forth a roadmap and an actionable framework to combat corruption.

In light of this, a resolution was adopted during the ninth session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (COSP9), convened in Sharm el-Sheikh, to follow up on the States Parties’ efforts to implement the provisions of the Declaration.
